About organizer

Morris is an educator, speaker, coach, and youth development professional who has provided mentoring, personal development, mindfulness, and interpersonal communication through Re-creation services, leadership seminars, and community workshops for the past twenty years. As a Social Studies Teacher in the early 2000’s; Morris created and designed a new innovative African American History Course/Curriculum, challenged the public school system by implementing a unique style of teaching and learning in the classroom called Non-Violent Communication, and established a rigorous, relevant, and meaningful curriculum for an all male classroom in South Central Los Angeles dedicated to keeping young boys off the streets, out of gangs, and away from prisons.

Founded in 2018, Ndani is a comprehensive integration of all the years of working with families, schools, neighborhoods, communities, universities, and institutions around Equity & Inclusion, Anti-Oppression, Race/Identity Development, Youth Development, Wellness, and Community Engagement. Ndani is a 501c3 community school designed in Educational Theory and Practice, Critical Consciousness and Transformative Education.

The source of inspiration and success comes from Morris’s twenty five year marriage to Dr. Venaya Jones, and his unconditional love for his two young adult children Naimah and Idris.


Every moment of our existence we experience this ebb and flow of: inward and outward movement, of expansion and contraction, of intimacy and alienation. However, we often feel stuck, when obstacles or distractions divert us from what really matters in life. We feel overwhelmed, consumed, overworked, and stressed out from the many commitments that quickly transform themselves into duties, burdens, and obligations. Not to mention, the deeper individual and societal traumas that we learn to bury deeply beneath the surface, leaving us with little energy to simply celebrate the successes of life, while letting go and mourning our sorrows.

So let’s stop, reflect, and re-create ourselves.

We invite you to take a deep dive into this six-day journey into self-care, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and self-discovery with Mansa. Each session is designed to increase self-awareness, build personal resilience, celebrate life, mourn loss, and strengthen self-confidence. Mansa self-care retreats create the space for reflection, rejuvenation, meaningful conversation, meditation, and fun. We will spend each day contemplating how to connect with the divinity within ourselves. We will move our bodies, sing, dance, and drop below the surface into deep meditation.
